28 APRIL 2006 Malawi: Workers' Memorial Day Activities 2006 Dear Comrades, Malawi trade unions join employers and government to plan 28 April activities MCTU: The Malawi Congress of Trade Unions has announced preparations for 28 April International Commemoration Day (ICD) that involve work with a national tripartite committee to plan various activities. Activities that are being planned include a car float in the city of Lilongwe, visits to selected industrial sites, marches that include workers, employers and representatives of government, a radio show and a TV Panel discussion. Austin Kalimanjira SECRETARY GENERAL Malawi leaders to personally deliver letter to British and American embassies urging permanent G8 Working Group on HIV/AIDS MCTU: The Malawi Congress of Trade Unions will join trade unions around the world in observing 28 April by organizing a special ceremony to which both the British High Commissioner and the American Ambassador to Malawi will be invited. In addition, they will join the campaign to persuade G8 Countries to create a permanent working group on HIV/AIDS. The Secretary General of MCTU, Austin Kalimanjira, plans to deliver the letter to the British and American Embassies in Lilongwe on the 10th of April, accompanied by HIV/AIDS Coordinator Joseph Kankhwangwa and Victoria Nyirenda, in order to demonstrate how serious they consider this matter to be. In a Campaign circular sent out in March, Alan Leather, Deputy General Secretary of the Public Services International (PSI) and Chair of the Global Unions Campaign asked all affiliates of the ICFTU, the TUAC and the Global Union Federations to hand deliver or mail a letter to at least one Embassy of a G8 nation situated in their country by 28 April, the International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured Workers..
