{"id":667,"date":"2009-12-07T17:39:18","date_gmt":"2009-12-07T17:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hazards.org\/greenjobs\/blog\/?p=667"},"modified":"2009-12-07T17:54:27","modified_gmt":"2009-12-07T17:54:27","slug":"global-unions-warn-against-a-negative-climate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hazards.org\/greenjobs\/blog\/2009\/12\/07\/global-unions-warn-against-a-negative-climate\/","title":{"rendered":"Global unions warn against a negative climate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mceTemp\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/climate.ituc-csi.org\/copenhagen-summit-decisions-should.html\">International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC)<\/a> has called again on governments \u201cto take urgent and necessary measures\u201d to deliver a low-carbon future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/climate.ituc-csi.org\/IMG\/pdf\/COP15_TUstatement_Final_EN.pdf\">\u2018Trade unions and climate change \u2013 Equity, justice and solidarity in the fight against climate change\u2019<\/a>, the ITUC statement to the summit, sets out the international trade union movement\u2019s position, emphasising the need for urgent emission reductions in developed countries, finance for developing countries\u2019 adaptation, creation of green and decent jobs and the implementation of \u201cjust transition\u201d policies, through investment in new low-carbon technologies to reduce the carbon footprints of existing industries.<!--more--><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-673\" title=\"Photo: Mick Holder\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hazards.org\/greenjobs\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/unions-and-climate-change1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Mick Holder\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hazards.org\/greenjobs\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/unions-and-climate-change1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hazards.org\/greenjobs\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/unions-and-climate-change1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u201cSolidarity is definitely a key point in the road to success for this critically-important summit,\u201d said ITUC general secretary Guy Ryder. \u201cThe world can simply not wait any longer. Decisions should be made at Copenhagen and action has to start immediately.
