{"id":272,"date":"2009-10-23T05:32:02","date_gmt":"2009-10-23T04:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hazards.org\/blacklistblog\/?p=272"},"modified":"2009-10-23T12:53:10","modified_gmt":"2009-10-23T11:53:10","slug":"unite-welcomes-dismissal-of-%e2%80%98fictional%e2%80%99-terror-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hazards.org\/blacklistblog\/2009\/10\/23\/unite-welcomes-dismissal-of-%e2%80%98fictional%e2%80%99-terror-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Unite welcomes dismissal of \u2018fictional\u2019 terror case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8e9gtdLdDKo\">httpv:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8e9gtdLdDKo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The union <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitetheunion.com\/news__events\/latest_news\/unite_member_wins_right_to_con.aspx\">Unite<\/a> has welcomed the High Court\u2019s decision to reject an injunction request by power giant Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE), aiming to stop a peaceful protest against blacklisting.<\/p>\n<p>The union provided legal support for electrician Steve Acheson, who has been protesting outside SSE\u2019s Fiddlers Ferry power station against his dismissal by site contractors and against blacklisting for over nine months.<\/p>\n<p>The judge said that the application, which aimed to use provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act to justify the injunction, was \u201cfanciful\u201d and \u201calmost paranoid\u201d and noted that the Unite member\u2019s occupation meant that he was alive to the dangers posed by power stations.<\/p>\n<p>Unite assistant general secretary, Les Bayliss, said: &#8220;Scottish and Southern tried to cook up a fictional story to try to prevent a Unite member from holding a peaceful protest against blacklisting in construction outside Fiddlers Ferry power station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a blatant attack on the rights we hold dear in a democratic society and we are pleased that the judge saw right through Scottish and Southern&#8217;s bogus arguments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The judge dismissed the application and ordered SSE to pay Mr Acheson&#8217;s costs.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>httpv:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8e9gtdLdDKo The union Unite has welcomed the High Court\u2019s decision to reject an injunction request by power giant Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE), aiming to stop a peaceful protest against blacklisting.
