ITUC Background notes
13th International Commemoration
Day (ICD) for Dead and Injured Workers
Good Occupational Health for All Workers
ITUC General Secretary Guy Ryder has kicked off this year’s
International Commemoration Day (ICD) for Dead and Injured Workers.
By releasing a background paper for ICD he has marked the beginning
of a national and sector activity reporting process.
The background paper provides a history of 28 April and introduces
this years theme, providing ideas for the issues that might be
treated by trade unions, and other organisations, including governments:

Efforts to highlight health system development and delivery for
better prevention of disease or injury, or for better treatment
and care of workers is highlighted as a priority. The document
also suggests that these be illustrated by activities around specific
aspects of occupational health, such as cancer, asbestos HIV/AIDS,
as well as issues that related to standards and enforcement.
Please use this as a guide to plan your activities and keep us
informed of your plans by keeping in touch with the ITUC/TUAC

In a circular to all affiliates Ryder said he hoped that you
will be vigorously involved in this year’s ICD. "It
is a unique annual opportunity to emphatically express our collective
voices about the need to protect and promote workers’ health
in this era of globalization."
Our first summary of the 2008 activities will soon be availabe
and continuously updated at this location: English
